Robert J. Pape Jr. is an active volunteer and community leader with years of experience in the fire service.
Since the Spring of 2000, Robert J. Pape Jr. has worked with the Port Washington Fire Department as a member of the Atlantic Hook and Ladder Company No. 1., Port Washington’s first organized fire company. Over the years of serving the community with the department, Robert has completed many fire service training courses, earning numerous certifications.

He also completed additional independent coursework to expand his knowledge and expertise in the fire service. At the NC Fire Academy, Robert J. Pape Jr. completed courses in Hazardous Materials and Operations as well as Fire Behavior and Arson Recognition. He also completed a fire safety course.
On September 11, 2001, Robert J. Pape Jr. was a first responder during the 9/11 attacks. As he was working in the city at the time, Pape immediately reported for duty at the nearest firehouse and continued to report in where he was needed throughout the afternoon. The week following the attacks, Pape continued his service and support, spending a 12 hour shift at ground zero.
Over the course of his honorable service, Robert J. Pape Jr. has earned many notable awards and recognitions for his strength, bravery, and courage.

- July 2002 – 9/11 Service Ribbon for Fire Chaplains
Awarded to Robert J. Pape. Jr. by Congressman Peter King for his honorable service as Fire Chaplain of the Port Washington Fire Department during the attacks on 9/11.
- May 2011 – Emergency Medical Service Life Saving Award
Awarded by the Port Washington Fire Department after responding to a cardiac arrest emergency on the street as part of a EMS unit.
- 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2013 – Firefighter Service Award
Awarded by the Atlantic Hook & Ladder Company No. 1 Inc. of the Post Washington Fire Department
- May 2013 – Hurricane Sandy Meritorious Service Award
Awarded by Nassau County for Robert J. Pape Jr.’s meritorious service assisting and protecting the community of Nassau County during the storm of Hurricane Sandy and its devastating aftermath.
